Nassau, Bahamas

The view from room 663 at the British Colonial Hotel in Nassau was spectacular!

We recently took a vacation to Nassau with our family. Nassau is an appealing destination for families flying out of YYZ because of the short, direct flight. It also has beautiful beaches and lots of activities for children of all ages.

We enjoyed the rooms and location of the newly revamped British Colonial Hotel. The service was exceptional and the beach was beautiful. There are two pools, lots of umbrellas for shade and poolside service (what more could you ask for?). The beach is small but offers powdery white sand and is easy to swim in. The British Colonial is very close to the cruise port, making it a wonderful “daycation” for those seeking peace and quiet, great food and some sun while cruising.

Whether you want out of this world water parks, snorkelling tours or a chance to swim with pigs, there are plenty of excursions for families! Next door to the British Colonial is The Margaritaville Hotel, which offers a full waterpark for kids of all ages. The Baha Mar and Atlantis also offer water adventures and are both a short cab ride away.

Outside the hotel there are plenty of restaurants and shopping areas and the fish fry and straw market are walking distance.

Recently the Canadian government changed their travel advice to Nassau from green to yellow. A yellow category means “exercise a high degree of caution”. I have to say, I felt completely save the entire trip and found the people warm and friendly.

I would not hesitate to recommend Nassau as a destination and the British Colonial as the perfect spot to vacation. My son loved Nassau so much, he wants to move to the Bahamas when he his older– needless to say, the kids loved the destination so much so, we are certain we will return.
